Dutch Modelling and Aviation

In Memoriam

Klaas Willem Jonker
(Wilko)
† April 30, 2018

On Monday 30 April 2018, Wilko Jonker died after a long illness at the age of 58. He leaves behind a wife and two children. The Dutch military aviation and plastic modeling were his hobby and on this website he shared all the knowledge he has collected over the years. His hobby has been able to distract him from the persistent disease in his body until the last week of his life. The contacts with other hobbyists were a major support for him.

This website will be maintained by different people for as long as possible, so that other enthusiasts can continue to benefit from extensive content.

There has been only one Spitfire Mk.II in Dutch service.
Harry van der Meer states this was Spitfire P7891, the personal aircraft of HRH Prince Bernhard.

Andrew Pentland, who set up the Spitfire production List let me know that, according to the records of this aircraft, HRH Prince Bernhard used a different name when flying this aircraft.

Na een onfortuinlijke landing wordt de Spitfire Mk.II van Prins Bernhard naar een parkeerplaats geduwd. Dit gebeurde tijdens het bezoek van Prins Bernhard aan het 322 Sqn.
After an unfortunate landing the Spitfire Mk.II of HRH Prince Bernhard is pushed towards  a parking space.
This happened during the visit of HRH Prince Bernhard to squadron 322.

De door prins Bernhard gevlogen Spitfire Mk IIA (P7981) die bij een bezoek aan 167 Squadron in het najaar van 1942 tijdens het taxieën na de landing een neusstand maakte op het Schotse vliegveld Castletown.
The Spitfire Mk IIA (P7891) flown by HRH Prince Bernhard made a nose stand during a visit to 167 Squadron at Scottish Castle air base in the autumn of 1942 by the Scottish Castle Town airport.

Decals used are partly kitdecals, partly some remains and partly home-made. [I erroneously used the wrong RAF number P7981 on this model, it should be P7891]
