History

The Fokker DC-I was a development of the Fokker C.IV, with a smaller wingspan, but further identical.

The smaller wingspan was necessary to improve the manoeuvrability because of the fighter function of the type. The D.C.I climbed in 6 minutes to a height of 3000 m, whereas the C.Iv needed 16 minutes for the same height. It was equipped with a Napier Lion rated 450 hp and only ten examples were built for NEIAF. These aircraft are the only examples built of this type.

Spain was interested to built the aircraft under licence, but preferred the Fokker C.IV.

In 1923 the NEIAF ordered ten Fokker D.C.Is as a replacement for the disappointing Vickers Viking IV.

They were built at the Fokker factory at Veere and entered service in March 1926. The last two Fokker D.C.Is were withdrawn from use in 1934.

Some received later the revised and modified Napier Lion II engines of the withdrawn Viking.
December 29, 1930 the first parachute jump in the Netherlands East Indies  was made from a Fokker D.C.I.
