Versions.
At the moment of writing three different single seat versions of the F-35 are being built.
- Lockheed-Martin F-35A:
- The standard type for use from common airfields. The only version with a cannon built in. This type is meant to replace the (fourth genereation) fighters currently in use with the USASF (and other air forces).
- Lockheed-Martin F-35B:
- This is the STOVL (short takeoff/vertical landing) version meant for use from small air fields and ships.
- Lockheed-Martin -F-35C:
- This is the naval version and the first naval stealth fighter.
