On Monday, April 30, 2018, Wilko Jonker passed away after a long illness at the age of 58. He leaves behind a wife and two children. The Dutch military aviation and plastic model building were his hobby and on this website he has shared all the knowledge he has gathered about it over the many years. His hobby was able to distract him from the raging disease in his body until the last week of his life. The contacts with other hobbyists were a major support for him.

Serial overview RNlNAS

The serials of the Mitchells of the RNlNAS are rather confusing.
Well-known is the photo of Mitchell 1-18 (A-18) and Mitchell 18-1 (R-18) (shown above). At that time the serials of the Mitchell were dependent of the function of the Mitchell.
Three examples were in use for OSRD (SAR) purposes and were registered as R-1 till R-3, applied on the aircraft as 18-1 till 18-3.

Later also these three aircraft received a new serial just as the other Mitchells.

The other Mitchells were mainly used for training.
The first serial, applied on the Mitchells  were A-11 till  A-23, applied on the aircraft as 1-11 till 1-23.
In march 1950 the registration system was revised, so the remaining Mitchells receiver serials M-1 till  M-9, applied as 13-1 till 13-9.
In December of the same year a third serial change was accomplished and the remaining Mitchells received, after a complete overhaul at Aviolanda serials B-1 till B-9, applied as 2-1 till 2-9.
