History
Thulin K
The Thulin K was designed in 1916 by Dr. Thulin of the Swedish AB Thulinverken.
It was a single seat fighter.
The shoulder plane had a wooden construction and no flaps. It had a Thulin A rotary engine of 90 horsepower. This was derived from the French Gnome rotary engine.
Two examples were built for Swedish Flygvapnet and twelve examples for the Dutch Navy.
Also a two-seat version was built, in which the instructor and the pupil sat in tandem.
Three examples were built for the Dutch Navy.
Thulin LA
The Thulin LA, a biplane trainer, was designed in 1917 and was based on the earlier Thulin E and Thulin L. These were derived from the Albatros B.I
The Thulin LA had a custom fuselage, empennage and another engine.
Fifteen examples were built, of which ten of the Dutch Navy.

During 1917 twelve single seat fighters of the type Thulin K were ordered at he Swedish AB Enoch Thulins Aeroplanfabrik. These small aircraft were armed with two machine-guns.
Also, three examples of the twoseat version, The Thulin KA, of this fighter were ordered for training purposes.
Furthermore ten Thulin LA training aircraft were purchased to succeed the Farman. In practice, the aircraft did not comply, mainly because of the unreliable engines.

The linen parts of the aircraft were varnished, as was usual at that time.
The wooden pieces leading to the hood were also painted white.
The metal hood and spinner were treated against corrosion by a coating. Judging by photographs, this was not a clear coat, but possibly treated with a coloured varnish.
The colour is fact very similar to the rest of the unit and is clearly not white (painted metal).
