On Monday, April 30, 2018, Wilko Jonker passed away after a long illness at the age of 58. He leaves behind a wife and two children. The Dutch military aviation and plastic model building were his hobby and on this website he has shared all the knowledge he has gathered about it over the many years. His hobby was able to distract him from the raging disease in his body until the last week of his life. The contacts with other hobbyists were a major support for him.

      Note that the Meteors Mk.8 used by 323 squadron were equipped with the late type canopy, modified ailerons and usually enlarged air intakes. The Matchbox kit allows you to build a Meteor with this modifications.
      Piet Miedema, member of the technical crew of the Meteor demo team of squadron 323, told me the Meteor flew sometimes with the smaller and sometimes with the enlarged air intakes.
      The Meteors of the display usual had the enlarged intakes, but the aircraft of the leader was equipped with small intakes, so it was a bit slower!

      I think most of the Merlin models are rather expensive, and of rather poor quality.

A model (in fact it is my oldest model) of the Frog  Gloster Meteor Mk.4.
The kit is the Frog kit and the decals come from several sets such as IPMS Nederland. This model i have built somewhere in the seventies "straight from the box".
Mid eighties I have refurbished the model in current paint scheme shown.
