Early twenties the RNlNAS was was looking for a successor of the Spijker V.2 trainer. After testing the Fokker S.III an initial order of six examples was given on June 6, 1923.
December 31, 1923 a second series of 12 exampled was ordered.
At the end of 1924 all aircraft were delivered.
The Technical Service of the RNLNAS built an 19th example from spare parts.

The Fokker S.III did well and remained in service until the end of 1938.
In May 1940 nine examples were still left and some of these were used as decoy on Naval Air Station De Kooy.
